Managers, Supervisors and Business owners are responsible for complying with "The Manual Handling Operations Regulations" and consulting with employee's in the process of hazard identification, assessment and control. Managers, Supervisors and Business owners should ensure that work place practices involving Manual Handling are designed to be, so far is as reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to Health & Safety.

Staff are responsible for co-operating in Manual Handling hazard management and following developed work procedures put in place in the interests of Health & Safety.

What is Manual Handling?

-The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 ( MHOR 92 - amended 2002 ) apply to all Manual Handling operations defined as "any transporting or supporting of a load by hand or bodily force ( including the Lifting, Putting down, Pushing, Pulling, Carrying or Moving thereof )

Back pain caused by Manual Handling injuries is one of the biggest causes of employee time off work in the UK, it is associated with more over 7 day Reportable injuries to the HSE ( RIDDOR ) than any other work based task.
Good Manual Handling practices and techniques as well as employee awareness can reduce the risks and harm these type of injuries can cause, saving the company valuable lost production and compensation claims for injuries sustained.
